I don't have a laptop and I could not activate it. I called the 800 number, they told me to go to the store. I goto the store, they told me to call the 800 number. I found the manager who sympathized with the catch-22 I was in, and he made it happen. <br><br>Verizon gets 2/10 for Customer Service. They'll say that they discount the cost of the device (sometimes to the point that it's free) in exchange for you committing to the contract. The thinking is that they'll eventually recoup the cost of the device over time, as you pay for the service.<br><br>You'd have to pay 'retail' to get the MiFi before the contract is up. Sucks. I'm in that position now with my Droid.
